REVIEW: LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK

Lip Sleeping Masks are thick balms that you apply before you sleep for soft, hydrated lips the next morning when you wake up. Unlike regular lip balm, they are thicker in texture, which takes longer to fully absorb.

Last winter, I was suffering from very chapped lips. I was doing some last-minute Christmas shopping and saw that the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask was on sale! It originally sells for $20, but it was only $12.50 at the time, so I decided to give it a try after reading so many good reviews about it. I went home super excited that day because I love the brand's facial sleeping mask and couldn't wait to try the new member to my LANEIGE collection.

There are three other scented version of the original lip mask - Grapefruit in a pink jar, Apple Lime in a green jar, and Vanilla in a yellow jar. Although they come in different scents, the lip masks use vitamin C, antioxidants, shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and various fruits extracts like goji berry, strawberry, and raspberry to soothe and soften lips. It claims to use Moisture WrapTM, an exclusive technology, which creates a mineral network of beta-glucans over the lips to lock in moisture for up to 8 hours.

Each lip mask comes with a little silicone spatula for more hygienic application, but a clean finger will work too. Similar to the brand's Cica Sleeping Mask, the product melts into the skin the moment it is applied.

The mask is colorless and has a soft-buttery texture. A little goes a long way because you don't want to get it inside your mouth and grease all over your pillow case when you sleep!

As lemon-lime lover, I chose the Apple Lime because of its subtle and sweet scent. Personally, I can smell more of the apple than the lime. It also reminds me of fresh laundry.

When I have this mask on, my lips don't feel trapped underneath the grease. It doesn't feel heavy like other lip products. I use this product every night and it tend to be 90% absorbed when I wake up in the morning. My lips feel super soft and smooth. I am amazed at the result because I always suffer from dry lips especially in the winter. No matter how much water I drink, my lips are still really dry.

At times, I would brush my toothbrush gently against my lips to get rid of the dead skin cells. Then, I would apply the mask again to protect my raw lips. This works great because the mask softens my lips and make it easier for me to exfoliate.

On days when I feel like my lips need extra hydration, I would use a tiny bit of the mask before I put on my makeup, and wipe off the excess before I put on some lipstick. I also use it during the day as a lip gloss as it makes my lips look plump and hydrated.

$20 might be a lot for a thick lip balm, but the formula is indeed intensively hydrating. If you feel uncomfortable about investing in a sleeping mask for your lips, you can always use regular facial sleeping mask instead, which might be better than regular drugstore lip balm. For those who are still skeptical about the lip mask, you can always purchase a trial size to see whether you like it!
