REVIEW: LANEIGE CICA SLEEPING MASK

LANEIGE released its Cica Sleeping Mask in the beginning of 2019 and it is definitely one of my favorite skincare products and a must-have for those who live in a colder climate. Now you might be thinking why is she writing about it now? That's because I'm under quarantine just like everyone else to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, so I thought why not write a blog about one of my favorite products?

Before I jump into my experience and the effect it has on my skin, I am going to provide some background information about this Sleeping Mask and the brand itself.

The Cica trend has been really popular in Korea for over 2 years now because it has a huge list of skin benefits, but mostly known for its healing, soothing, antibacterial, and inflammatory properties, which makes it ideal for sensitive skin. It is great for conditions such as rosacea, scarring, eczema, psoriasis, and cellulite.

For those who don't know about LANEIGE, it is a South Korea cosmetic brand launched by Amore Pacific in 1994. It's known for its best selling Sleeping Masks, which come in various versions and scents.

The main ingredient in the sleeping mask is Centella Asiatica, which contains 3 components: asiaticoside, madecassoside, and Asian acid). What makes this mask so special is an active soothing ingredient called Forest Yeast, which is also known as Aureobasidium Pullulans Ferment. It is a microorganism found in the Gotjawal forest on Jeju Island in South Korea and is a patented ingredient by Amore Pacific. When these two ingredients combine, they help repair and strengthen our skin barrier like not many Cica products in the market can.

Aside from these two main ingredients, it contains soothing ingredients such as Squalane, Glycerin, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, and Tocopherol. It also contains Cetearyl Alcohol, know as a fatty alcohol, that is absolutely non-irritating and is good for dry skin. Although this sleeping mask is recommended for sensitive skin, it does contain malaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, an acne fighting agent that could cause redness on severely sensitive skin.

I am a huge fan of the original formula, because it made my skin feel soft, radiant, and refreshed. When this Cica version was launched, I HAD to get my hands on it.

After trying the other LANEIGE Sleeping Masks, I do think that the Cica Sleeping Mask is a lot thicker in texture which makes it suitable for people who have dryer skin. It doesn't have a scent which makes it ideal for those who have sensitive skin. Because I have combination skin, I only applied it on my cheeks and let the magic happen overnight. I wouldn't recommend this to people with oily skin as it could lead to break out due to congested pores. Remember that a little goes a long way!

After using it for a little over 6 months now, I realized that using it twice a week in the winter and once a week in the summer is enough for it to show restorative effect on my skin. I usually use it after patting the toner into my skin for best results.

Although it is quite thick in consistency, it melts right into my skin the moment I apply it, so it doesn't feel greasy at all. I find this really important because I hate leaving products on my pillow case!

As someone who suffers from acne in my early 20s, it minimized the appearance of my acne scar and the redness of my acne. Its inflammatory properties also helped reduce the size of my cystic acne the next day.

Overall, I would continue to purchase this product as it truly works wonder on my skin! It retails for ~$30 for a 60ml jar and with the amount I use and the frequency of each application, it could last me for approximately 8 months.

P.S. If you're reading this during the Coronavirus pandemic, stay healthy and positive! Choose to see the good in every situation.
